How do I know if SEO is bringing in new clients?
Simple numbers you can track and anyone can understand, from inquiries and calls to how often AI tools name you.

Track the inquiries your website brings in by type, the calls it drives, and how often you show up on Google and in AI answers, then compare each against where you started. Those are numbers you can collect and anyone on your team can follow.
What to track
- Inquiries by type: new clients, quote or booking requests (like consultations at a med spa or estimates for a roofer), partners and hiring.
- Phone calls: calls from your site, including taps on your phone number on mobile.
- Visits from Google and AI tools: how many people arrive from search and from tools like ChatGPT.
- Visibility scores: where you rank for the searches that matter, and how ready your site is for search and AI.
- AI mentions: how often ChatGPT and other AI tools name or cite your company.
Account for referrals
A lot of business starts with a referral. The person checks out your website, then calls someone they know. That never shows up as a form fill, so count calls and phone taps, and ask new clients how they found you.
When to expect movement
Google often reflects website changes within a few weeks. AI answers usually take longer, often closer to six months. A results review about three months after launch gives the numbers time to move.
Common questions
Can we track leads that come from ChatGPT?
Partly. Some AI tools send visits you can see in your analytics, and you can check how often AI answers mention you. Not every AI-influenced lead is trackable yet, which is why calls and “how did you hear about us” matter.
What if most of our work comes from referrals?
That’s common. Your website still matters, because referred clients check it before they call. Tracking calls and asking how new clients found you shows the website’s role in that business.
